3/2/2024 0 Comments Integer overflow wrap around![]() However, if you opt for divisions, 32-bits integers are more suitable (but just because you’re using divisions you won’t have top-notch performance). If you don’t have to use divisions, you will notice no performance gap between 32 bits and 64 bits. This may not surprise you, but in every case it’s the division which is the slowest. Using clang, using two different optimization levels, here are the results: I ran a few basic operations (addition, multiplication and division) on both int32_t and int64_t to see if there were any significant differences. So I recommend that, unless your integer has a hard limit and is very small, use a int64_t. Trying to over-optimize and risk integer overflow is always worse than to write safe code then use tools to pinpoint where the program must be optimized. Just note that longer integers does not always mean slower calculation, and with the full set of pointer / reference / forwarding, you don’t copy whole data structures very often.Īnd in any case, even if you are performance and/or size sensitive, always remember:įirst, be safe. Only if you work on embedded software or on processing algorithms you may care about performance or data size constraints (by “processing algorithms” I mean algorithms supposed to have top-notch performance, like in signal processing). Most of the time, you won’t care about the performance gap or the size gap between them. There is actually very few downsides in using int64_t instead of int32_t. In most case, 64-bits ints will not commit overflow, unlike their 32-bits counterparts. One very good way to prevent integer overflows is to use int64_t to implement integers. How to prevent integer overflows? Use 64-bits integers The next section will give a few practices to help you in that regard. If you ensure that no overflow can arise from the code you write, you won’t have to detect them. The best way be sure there is no overflow is to prevent overflows. Don’t put your code in a situation prone to overflows Don’t be afraid to do it, you are better safe than sorry. Sometime, detecting a potential overflow this way will requires weighty refactoring. You must put so error-handling in them to ensure no overflow will happen. ![]() If you don’t know what result to expect when you put a big int into them, because the result would be too big, and there is no error-handling, then your feature is unsafe. You can then check if the features perform correct evaluations, throws an exception, returns an error code, or do whatever it is supposed to do in these cases. If your project implement unit tests (I could argue that every project should, but it’s not always up to the developers), then you have a pretty direct way to check for overflows.įor the data and functions that can accept very high numbers, just throw big ints into them. ![]() If your test run is not exhaustive enough, you run the risk to let an overflow slip. The main downside of a dynamic checker like this one is that you’ll have to do a full compilation and an exhaustive test run of your program to detect overflows. I may be wrong, but I did not see any integration in other compilers. GCC Undefined Behavior Sanitizer – ubsan | Red Hat Developer.UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer - Clang 13 documentation ().It is implemented for both clang and GCC: ![]() It has the ability to detect integer overflows in the form of compilation options (though it is supposed to check UBs, it also do us the favor to check unsigned overflows): clang++ -fsanitize=signed-integer-overflow -fsanitize=unsigned-integer-overflow Undefined Behavior Sanitizer, UBSan for short, is a runtime undefined behaviour checker. If you happen to know other ways to do so, feel free to share it in comments, so it can benefit to everyone. I will present a few way to detect overflow in this section. They just either lack consistency or easiness. While they are few, there are ways to detected integer overflows. Even if signed overflow is undefined behavior while unsigned is not, 99.9% of the time you want neither of them. This article will talk about both signed and unsigned integer overflow, without distinction. There is no consistent and easy way to detect them, let alone to statically detect them, and the will make your program inconsistent.

3/2/2024 0 Comments Time block planner![]() Here are a few examples of what this might look like. What’s your morning routine? How will you disconnect from work and make time for friends, family, and hobbies? These tasks are just as, if not more important than what you do during the day. Now it’s time to actually start creating your “blocks.” Instead of jumping straight into your workday, however, start with guardrails for your time outside of work. Whatever you choose, knowing your high-level priorities and goals will shape what makes it onto your schedule and how you block out your day. ![]() Is it because you want more time for focused work? Or to reduce your time spent on emails or in meetings? Or simply just to leave work at a reasonable hour and spend time with family? The first question you need to answer is: Why do you want to use time blocking? Let’s walk through a simple step-by-step process for setting up your own time blocking system. “ rarely goes exactly how I planned, but it does… keep me on task, and a lot less likely to go down the Facebook rabbit hole, or get distracted by something else because I know that if I take too much time on this task, it pushes the rest of my schedule back.” Especially when you see it as a framework for thinking about your day rather than a set of laws you can’t break. Potential issues aside, time-blocking is still a powerful time management strategy. How to start time blocking your schedule in 5 steps What a fully time blocked calendar might look like. Focusing just on each day can sometimes make it harder to think about making progress on your long-term goals.

3/2/2024 0 Comments Simply cat breakaway collarInterestingly, a study found that about 75% of cats will eventually tolerate wearing a collar. Breakaway features are a necessary safety feature but clever cats can easily exploit them to remove their collars. If your cat sets their mind to not wearing a collar, they’re probably going to be able to escape or kick off any collar you try. Let’s face it, cats aren’t known for doing anything that they don’t want to do. In this case, you may prefer to purchase a collar without a bell. If your cat’s collar will primarily be worn inside, a jingling bell could be annoying, especially at night. Not all collars come with bells, although it’s certainly possible to add one on your own. Bell Or No Bell?Įxperts recommend that outdoor cats wear a collar with a bell to minimize the damage to birds and wildlife caused by these feline serial killers. Keep a close eye on any collar you buy, especially if your cat is still growing, to make sure it doesn’t get too tight. To properly fit the collar, you should be able to fit two fingers between it and your cat–no more and no less. Only one of the collars we reviewed adjusts smaller than 7.5 inches.Īt the same time, if you’re looking for a collar for a large cat, over 15 pounds, several of the collars we reviewed wouldn’t be suitable. You don’t want the collar to slip over the cat’s head or get caught on their mouth. For safety’s sake, you want the collar to fit snugly but not too tightly. ![]() If you’re buying a collar for a kitten or small adult cat, your options are going to be more limited. For safety’s sake, cats should wear what’s known as a breakaway collar, a collar with a buckle that pops open if your cat gets the collar snagged, preventing injury.Ĭhoosing the right collar for your cat is more than just picking the cutest color or pattern (although that’s important too!). ![]() If your cat regularly spends time outside, a collar and a tag are a must in case your feline strays too far from home. New kitty owners quickly learn that buying a new cat collar is not always a one-time activity as they can quickly become your feline’s favorite chew toy. 3/2/2024 0 Comments Beck arnley red coolant![]() They must be changed once every five years or 150,000 miles. Usually, OAT-based coolants will be dyed a different colour to green anti-freeze. Unlike green anti-freeze, they generally do not contain silicates or phosphates. OAT stands for Organic Acid Technology.OAT anti-freeze contain ingredients such as 2-EHA, sebacate and other various organic acids. They need to be changed every 30,000 miles or once every two to three years. Their silicate and phosphate composition provides protection for aluminium and bare iron surfaces. These are the traditional type of anti-freeze most commonly used in North America. There are only 3 main anti-freeze types/coolant types, at most 4 so far less than the types of car engines ! Here is just a little info that I just quickly found. Hope the tech you talked to confused this with another type in their lineup as thousands of diesel owners switched to this one because it contains no silicates. I asked about silicates in the ELC and surprisingly he did mention it did have them without going into much detail.Unless they have other elc coolants or have recently changed their recipe for the zxed1. ![]() I called Valvoline today out of curiosity, the tech mentioned only their Zerex Asian formula line would be recommended for Toyota/Lexus. ![]() I find it comparable but not much cheaper than Toyota pink super long life coolant. Otherwise, the Zerex Asian formula is a no brainer at 5year/150k mile intervals. You can call Valvoline from their site to verify. I could be wrong but i think it may contain silicates which is not recommended by Toyota/Lexus. I probably will not be doing this until late April so I have plenty of time to do more research and that is why I'm here asking ahead of time.Zerex ZXED1 Cat EC-1 ELC is speced for diesel applications. If anyone has any data on why this Zerex would be a bad choice please point it out. It is Zerex ZXED1 Cat EC-1 ELC and cost about $16 per gallon. I have a 2006 ford diesel that I switched to zerex elc years back and ford recomended their own gold coolant that has caused many engine issues because of silicates in the gold, so far zerex has done it's job on the $60k truck and really am considering using it in this old rx as well as it contains no silicates. I think that I am going to be using either zerex elc or peak final charge elc. 3/2/2024 0 Comments Lektor thues r2![]() "Yeah but" cringe the barbarian hordes of streaming. The black metal monolith with a footprint of 35x36cm stands just 7cm tall but weighs a solid 11kg. Digital outputs are direct-coupled 0.7V/75Ω RCA and transformer-coupled 1V/110Ω AES/EBU. And for the first time in his catalogue, a Lektor comes with an external word-clock input on RCA. A material change from Jarek's earlier black granite slab is precision-machined hard-anodized aluminium sourced from Taiwan's Champion H and C Inc. This recalls iFi's Thorsten Loesch whose Aurora all-in-one runs all clocking off one oscillator "like soldiers marching in lockstep on parade". It creates a digital output of very high slew rate and very low jitter." In my implementation of the Pro8, a single 3ps 16'9344MHz clock from TentLabs controls all processes for perfect synchronization. The earlier Philips drive still ran separate clocks for its transport, controller, display and volume control. That requires very specialized expertise. For the Pro8's Blue Tiger CD-84 controller, adopters must write their own software. Most commercial Pro2 implementations used this platform. Originally Digital Audio Industrial Supply of France who sold individual Philips drives had designed a display, controller firmware on Eprom memory plus a nice metal remote. "The new hardware lacks software support. As it turns out, for Jarek reviving his Lektor was a lot more involved than a simple swap of one mechanism for another. On the other side of the price tracks, Pro-Ject's various player/transport boxes had followed suit. Called the CD-Pro8, one of the first to implement it was Gryphon's Triangular Excellence aka the Ethos player I reviewed 3 years ago. It's based on Austria's SUOS-Hifi Pro2 successor. ![]() But having more to say on the subject proved just a matter of time. When remaining inventories of the long discontinued Philips CD-Pro2 top-loading mechanism finally thinned out too much to support a new production machine-or came with extortionist pricing-Jarek's digital lecturer became a professor. Since 1997 Jaromir Waszczyszyn aka Jarek of Krakow's Ancient Audio has called his CD players Lektor followed by a version suffix.
